These anime are about a girl or a group of girls with magical powers. Shoujo also has a rather popular sub-genre known as Mahou Shoujo (Magical Girl). Some examples are Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club. They are usually in a more natural setting, focusing on romance and or school life. There is also the Shoujo genre, which is anime and manga meant for a female audience. Many Shonen series (though not all) contain numerous story arcs without an official main plot. Shounen is meant for a male audience and contains violence, occasionally blood, and action packed scenes in every episode. While anime can have any genre (romance, horror, fantasy), there are a few main ones that are exclusive to anime and manga.
